All affiliation forms should be returned via email (with payment via BACS) to Rachel Barr – admin@netballni.org OR completed and brought along with payment to the schools forum in person on Tues 25th June.

Safeguarding Board NI (SBNI) Publish ‘Spotlight on Bullying Report’

The Safeguarding Board NI (SBNI) have published a new  Spotlight on Cyberbullying Report by Stranmillis University College highlighting the nature and extent of online bullying behaviours among children and young people aged 8-18 in NI.  The report draws out key insights from the recent large-scale research project Growing Up Online: Children’s online activities, harm and safety in Northern Ireland which they hope will help inform online safety policy and practice.

The findings presented in this Spotlight report highlight the wide variety of online bullying behaviours which are experienced by local children and young people, ranging from mean or nasty comments being made or sent to them and being excluded from WhatsApp groups, through to online blackmail, threats and being told to harm or kill themselves.

 

Summary– Among the key findings from the 6500 survey responses and interviews with almost 100 children and young people are that:

  • A total of 13% of children aged 8-13 reported that someone had been mean to them online within the previous two months, with a higher incidence among girls than boys.
  • Girls aged 14-18 were more likely than boys to report that mean or nasty comments had been made about them or sent to them, more likely to have had lies or rumours told about them, and more likely to have been excluded from an online group.
  • Boys aged 14-18 were more likely than girls to report that someone had tried to blackmail them, that they had been threatened online, or that their account had been hacked.
  • LGBTQI+ young people aged 14-18 were more likely than heterosexual young people to report that they had received mean or nasty comments or that they had been threatened.
  • Less than a third (31%) of 14-18 year olds said that they had reported the cyberbullying compared to almost half (47%) of 8-13 year olds.  In both cases children and young people are more likely to tell their friends than family members or someone at school.
  • While incidents of online bullying were reported to have very significant emotional impact on the children and young people concerned, it was striking how some of the young people appeared to accept a certain level of online risk and danger, and appeared confident in dealing with such incidents.

Netball NI AGM – 2023

Notice of the annual general meeting of Netball Northern Ireland

The Affiliated Organisation must give written notice to NNI of the name/s of representatives.

This should done by registering online at here not later than 5pm on Thursday 31st August 2023

As per our Articles of Association the Netball Northern Ireland Board notifies you, with not less than 21 days’ notice, of the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the members of Netball Northern Ireland. The details of this meeting are as follows:

At the meeting, members will have the opportunity to:

  • find out about Netball Northern Ireland’s operations and finances
  • vote on any resolutions proposed.

At the meeting, members will be asked to vote to:

  • accept the minutes of the last annual general meeting
  • accept the annual report
  • accept the annual financial statements
  • appoint an auditor.

Members have a right to appoint a proxy under section 324 of Companies Act 2006 Article 19

Completed proxy forms should be returned to Netball Northern Ireland, either via email (executivemanager@netballni.org) or post (address below) not later than 4pm Monday 4th September 2023.

Proposed timetable:

In order to adhere to the proposed timetable, the NNI Board kindly request that aside from points of clarity, members wishing to table any agenda items or motions please do so in writing to the Executive Manager not later than 5pm on Friday 25th August 2023.

Items or questions raised on the morning that have not been received by the Executive Manager by the deadline or items that fall outside of the business of the AGM may not be dealt with at the meeting but may be responded to in a more appropriate setting.

All motions or agenda items must be sent care of the Netball Office address or by emailing Executive Manager Karen Rollo on executivemanager@netballni.org.

Any motion should also be supported by 2 other individual members who are each eligible to vote at the AGM.

All affiliated clubs must send a minimum of 1 representative to the AGM. Any club failing to meet this requirement will be fined £25 and will not be allowed to affiliate until the fine has been paid.

All Clubs, Schools or Bodies of NNI who are not in default of membership fees due to NNI or affiliation fees, are eligible to vote at the AGM.

Affiliated Clubs members hold 3 votes and an Affiliated Schools other Body member will hold 1 vote. Every Affiliated Organisation representative must be a member of NNI and aged 18 years or over on the 1st day of January in the current year to be eligible to vote on their behalf.

The Affiliated Organisation must give written notice to NNI of the name/s of representatives.

All individual members who are not in default of fees are eligible to attend and speak but are not allowed to vote unless they are representing a club, school or affiliated body.

SECONDARY SCHOOL AFFILIATION INFO

In response to the valuable input received from the school’s forum and subsequent survey, it has become evident that a substantial overhaul of the competitive framework within schools is necessary to foster the continued growth and success of netball in NI schools.

We are pleased to report that the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. To facilitate the prompt commencement of the netball season, the Schools Working Group (SWG) will diligently refine this new structure during the summer months. However, in order for us to proceed accordingly, we kindly request that for those wishing to participate in the NNI schools’ competitions, it is imperative to complete your affiliation for the upcoming 2023/24 season here:

Once affiliated, your school will be eligible for the forthcoming season.  You will then receive a link for team entries.

Please note that the following costs will be applicable for the 2023/24 season:

  • School affiliation: £60 per school
  • Individual team entries: £30 per team (this fee covers inclusion in the Cup structure, should you choose to opt in)

To facilitate effective planning and preparation, we kindly request that all relevant information be submitted before the end of the current school term. We understand that this timeline may seem brief, but it was necessary to accommodate the School’s Forum and allow ample time for feedback and necessary adjustments.

By adhering to this timeline, the SWG and our team will be able to diligently work on finalising the new structure over the summer period, ensuring its seamless implementation by the end of August or the beginning of September. This will afford schools a. sufficient timeframe to organise their respective games.

We strongly urge you to complete both the affiliation form and your team entries without delay in order to secure your participation in the NNI schools’ competitions. The deadline for affiliation is Friday, June 30, 2023.
