Northern Ireland Warriors have secured their place at the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 following a historic weekend at the European Regional Qualifiers in East Kilbride, Scotland.

The Warriors finished the qualification campaign with two victories from three matches, defeating Wales 50 v 49 in a dramatic opening contest before closing the weekend with a commanding 73 v 50 victory over the Republic of Ireland.

Friday’s win over Wales was a significant moment for Northern Ireland, marking the Warriors’ first victory over Wales since 2018. In a fiercely contested encounter, Northern Ireland held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a one goal win and make the perfect start to the qualification weekend.

The Warriors returned to court on Saturday to face hosts Scotland. A strong Scottish performance saw Northern Ireland defeated 67 v 43, leaving everything to play for heading into the final day of competition.

Northern Ireland responded emphatically on Sunday against the Republic of Ireland. A determined team performance saw the Warriors take control of the contest and secure a 73 v 50 victory, confirming their qualification for the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027.

The result means Northern Ireland will return to the Netball World Cup for the first time since 2019.

The weekend also featured a significant individual milestone for Fionnuala Toner, who achieved her 125th international cap for Northern Ireland during the final match against the Republic of Ireland.

Toner’s achievement recognises an outstanding contribution to the international game and years of commitment to the Northern Ireland Warriors programme.
