Anna Rice wins Erin Thomson Most Promising Young Player Award

  • May 23,2022

Congratulations to Anna Rice from St Dominic’s Grammar School, Belfast for winning the 2022 Erin Thomson Most Promising Young Player award.

Due to the restrictions caused from the pandemic, this is the first time since 2019 we have been able to recognise and celebrate the tremendous work of our coaches, officials and volunteers as well as player performances. With restrictions lifting in January 2022, we have been able go out to our netball communities to present award winners in their school or club.

Thank you to everyone that nominated netballers for the Erin Thomson Most Promising Young Player award - the quality of the nominations across the award categories, this shows that there is massive support for our workforce and players, we are truly are a #netballfamily.

Anna's teacher and coach Deirdre Cassidy nominated her for the Erin Thomson Award, and she had this to say:

Anna is a versatile and adaptable netballer, able to confidently play all positions on court with composure from GS to GK. She is committed to her craft and puts into practise everything she learns in training. Anna gives absolutely everything to her team, and is a talented performer individually but will always ensure to check with her team mates when she notices they are struggling. She is a team player in all aspects.
Anna has the confidence to step up when required and in fact played on our school senior team due to a series of injuries during a match. Anna was unphased by this and stepped in as though she played with these girls regularly. Anna is driven and determined in all aspects of the game. Netball in NI looks very bright with players like Anna Rice coming through. The talent and attitude she has at such a young age bodes well for the future of the sport in NI.

Head of Performance, Noleen Armstrong commented:

"Anna is a very deserving winner of the Erin Thomson Most Promising Young Player award, she has shown a level of skill and understanding of the game that is exciting to watch in someone of her age – she is a credit to St Dominics and her club, Crumlin CNC, and we look forward to seeing her develop as she transitions through the performance pathway from U15 North East Academy to U17 and beyond.
