After months of preparation the next few weeks will only intensify for those selected as they prepare for matches against; Australia, South Africa, Jamaica, Barbados and Fiji in the group stage before at least 1 classification match.

Netball NI Chair, Geoff Wilson has congratulated those selected and wants the whole netball family to get behind the squad and the whole of Team NI;

'On behalf of the Board of Netball NI I want to congratulate everyone selected and wish them well in their final preparations as the Games approach. We know this squad has worked extremely hard and pushed one another to ensure we have a very strong team heading to Gold Coast and I’m sure the whole netball community will get behind the players as they take the court against the best in the world. Being part of multi-sport games will add a different dimension to the experience and supporters from every sport will be backing one another. Good luck to all Team NI.'

Karen Rollo, Executive Manager of Netball NI echoed these thoughts and expressed her appreciation for the support the team have already received;

'Witnessing first-hand the commitment and dedication of our athletes and coaches training to be the best they can be is amazing and indeed humbling. We are a close netball family in Northern Ireland and every one of our athletes has been supported immensely by their teammates, families, colleagues and friends. A frequent phrase you will hear from our athletes is; 'I can't, I have training.' The hours they put in to reaching this point, playing at the pinnacle event of our sport, means they more often than not miss family/friend events and netball will always be a top priority. The support around them to be able to do this is so much appreciated and cannot be underestimated. As a National Governing Body we support our athletes with the assistance of Sport NI and NICGC along with our sponsors and specialist service providers, we truly believe this united approach will allow our team to deliver strong performances at the Games and that we are #StrongestTogether'

We will keep you posted of the team’s preparations and performances once the Games start and hope you will be cheering loudly from NI in the wee small hours!

Netball has featured prominently in the media coverage of the Team NI announcements today, let’s keep this momentum going.
